[4723.84] Neat adversity Confederate use of the 3 cent Nesbitt stamped envelope (U10) from Scottsville VA.  Manuscript postmark, with "paid 5 cts" at upper left, addressed to Merchant's bank of Virginia.  Prior dealer notes identify provenance as ex-Thayer and Thacker.  $80
[2972]  Nice 3 cent star die stamped envelope from Holly Springs, Mississppi. March 20, 1861 date, sent to Baltimore MD.  CONFEDERATE USE, after Mississippi’s admission to the CSA and while the CSA continued to use the US postal system.  Valued in the confederate catalog at $250; this example has a bit of soiling and a diagonal bend (doesn’t appear to be a full crease) that could presumably be flattened.  Nice item!  $100
[4723.120]  Neat use of US postage in Confederate Mississippi.  Feb. 19, 1861 use from Torrance MS; 3 cent star die envelope with manuscript cancel, Carroll Hoy correspondence with usual pin holes and some tearing to backflap.  Prior dealer notes identify Richard Hall and Plantation Collection provenance but is wrong about confederate catalog value of this use, which is $250 rather than $300. Still a good deal at...  $100
