[4499]  Neat Hindenburg zeppelin airmail cover from New York to Germany - intended for the May 6, 1937 return flight to Europe that never occurred after the airship burned and crashed on landing at Lakehurst NJ.  Processed at New York Station K the morning of the 6th; 2 20 cent map airmails pay the correct 40 cent zeppelin airmail rate.  Pencil notations at bottom; no backstamps to confirm that the cover reached Germany.  This cover was probably waiting at Lakehurst to be loaded for the return trip and probably was returned to sender or handled by surface mail if it was sent on for delivery.  Richmond Hill NY (Long Island) return address on backstamp; neat and key item to end a zeppelin collection or exhibit, or for your airmail collection.  $100
[3046]  Neat 1936 Zeppelin flight cover from New York to Germany.  Full imperf TIPEX souvenir sheet, plus 3 cent Arkansas commemorative and 25 cent China Clipper airmail; proper 40 cent airmail rate for zeppelin carriage from New York to Germany.  Manuscript zeppelin endorsement at upper left.  Cute cover and a great use of the TIPEX sheet on a reasonably sized cover.  German backstamp and return address label from St. Louis.  Philatelically inspired but still a neat zeppelin flight.  SOLD
